This is worth reading. Do I agree? Welllll, yes and no. And when I have time tomorrow, I'll discuss it with you. But for now, you read it and tell me what you think.

I oddly had someone adamantly pursue my pseudonym to read his novel--the whole thing. This perplexed me on several levels, not the least of which was that he hadn't read any of my work, and eventually I just had to outright ignore him. (Okay, can I say that again? He hadn't even read MY WORK!)
That said, I'm all for the bartering system. I'd love to trade a novel read for gall bladder surgery. And I love reading my friends' works, but it generally takes me awhile. I mean, I have to read my own WIP nearly every day, and once you get past the 20K mark, this is a considerable investment of time!
Even if I haven't critiqued as many manuscripts as others here, I've critiqued enough to know that most people are looking for validation, not criticism. As the author of the article points out, you're a dick if you do and a dick if you don't.
Tough. That's part of the business. A screenwriter complaining about amateurs approaching him is like a doctor complaining about people seeking diagnoses at cocktail parties. It's going to happen whether you like it or not, so accept it as part of the job.
