Spring Fever

I think Spyscribbler's on to something. She said she had spring fever. I couldn't quite figure out why I was struggling this week to find interest in, well... anything. We went to Texas for the weekend, it was 80 degrees and sunny. We came back and had record highs on Monday and Tuesday--right around 80, thanks, I'll take all the credit for bringing it back with me. Then Wednesday it dropped into the 40s and 50s and the weather guy this morning even mentioned the possibility of snow next week come Wednesday or Thursday.
Damn.
How are you guys dealing with spring fever?

If you're the sort of writer who needs grey skies, rain and bluster to keep him at his desk, then I can only advise that you don't move here to Paradise (your map may have it as Miami).
Producing any sort of useful work here depends on nearly monastical self-discipline. There is ALWAYS something else to do than sit and clatter computer keys.
Erstwhile authors are forever arriving here (and in the Keys) to write the Great American Novel, only to find themselves, a month later, tending bar and their tans. I blame Hemingway. He mostly lived in Paradise, yet still became a great man of letters. But you'll notice that, with all the fish he had to catch, and rum he had to drink and tawny island women he had to, er, meet, he wrote awfully short books -- and not all that many of them.
Maybe that explains why my brain has been mush. The days have been beautiful here in California. Gorgeous. I love this time of year.
No wonder it's so hard to concentrate.

I remember you threatening me once before about describing what it's like to live in South Florida while you're digging out of that white stuff. So I won't tell you that we don't really have Spring Fever. If it's not Spring-like, then it's Summer. That's about it. Oh, I guess I went ahead and told you. My bad. :-)

I'm probably the reverse. I do better when the weather's good because the energy's up. But the trip to Austin made me realize I really needed a real vacation.
So let's see, that was 2 Floridas and a California weighing in. Is there a Pennsylvania, Ohio or another Michigan to be heard from?
There's a Maine. It's been in the 50's here pretty consistently, which is summer-like compared to the subzero temps we got the last 8 weeks of winter. I have no choice but to take the kids outside to play, but at least it's fresh air and I can think about the WIPs. Writing tends to get done later in the day or earlier in the morning. When it gets really warm out? That's what the PDA is for - sitting outside to work while I watch the older boy dig dirt.
I'll weigh in from N. Carolina. I, also, am more productive in warm weather--so the two days we had in the high seventies got me in the mood to join the living. Now it's 50 degrees again and I'm curling back up into my shell. I don't feel like doing anything except day-dreaming of moving back to Florida soon. It definitely is a sickness.
Of course there's another Michigander to hear from! Let's see, I stared at our purple crocuses for an hour because it's the first time I've seen color in five months. Then I looked for things in the yard to pick up. Yesterday we dug down to our septic tank so it could be pumped today. Our septic engineer said we have good bacteria. I'm very proud of that. How's everyone else's bacteria? Maybe I can give you some bacteria enhancing tips.
Spring has been late this year. Particularly since we had about 15 inches of snow in the middle of March. But yesterday the glacier on the hill finally receded enough so I was able to drive into town myself for the first time in two months rather than begging a ride. How's that for a spring fling! I'm feeling more inspired already.

Oh boy, do I have a septic field story for you. One of the reasons we moved to the sub we did was because of our septic field experiences with our house in Lake Orion.
Spring fever? Whats that? I'm in Jersey and we still don't have enough warm days in a row to qualify as spring. I think the problem with spring fever is that it pulls us outside and away from the computer where we work.
some one needs to invent a computer screen that is easily read outdoors in the sunlight.
