The Book Bitch Likes Derek Stillwater!

October 12, 2006
Super book lover website www.bookbitch.com had a review of THE DEVIL'S PITCHFORK. They like me, they really like me!

Also, if interested, there's a contest on the site to win a copy of THE DEVIL'S PITCHFORK and other books this month. Here's the review:

THE DEVIL’S PITCHFORK by Mark Terry: Is there a scenario worse that terrorists gaining access to nuclear weapons? What if they had a man made virus that packed the worst characteristics of Ebola, hepatitis and bubonic plague? Chimera M13 has the potential to destroy humanity. One man stands between extinction and salvation, Derek Stillwater, a troubleshooter for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security who specializes in biological and chemical weapons. Stillwater, however, has his own problems with panic attacks and self doubts that hinder his effectiveness. He has no choice but to follow his instincts while scientists work on a vaccine in Washington, D.C. He just might have a chance in hell of ending the madness-if only the government's most experienced immunological researcher hadn't become infected. One of the better books of this sub-genre. Recommended. 10/06 Jack Quick

Best,
Mark Terry

Nice review. Is this the first? It's always a relief to have that first review and it's a good one.

Nah. Who-dunnit gave a positive, although too-revealing review, and Kirkus, well, let's just say I'm in a big club of writers when it came to the Kirkus review.

This is my first post. I really do not remember how I came across your blog but I am glad I did. I find it very interesting and I do stop by each day to see what's going on. I joined your mailing list and thought the short story was fantastic. Also,I thought you might want to know that I work in New York City and saw one copy of The Devil's Pitchfork in the Borders store on 32nd Street and 2nd Ave. It was in the mystery section. I mentioned to the guy next to me that it was a great book but don't know if he bought it or not. I will say he was reading the covers. Hopefully he picked it up if he wanted a good read. By the way, you stated in one of your posts that you were being interviewed by a local paper, was it ever published and if so is it on the web? All the best and good luck....Chris

Chris,
Well, that's great news about the NY Borders. And thanks for the plug.

The interview was with the local paper and I seriously doubt it's on the web. I did an ego search on google last night and it didn't come up, so I doubt it.

Thanks for stopping by.

Mark

Kirkus...or is it KickUs?
The first review we got was a summary of the whole plot (gee, thanks) the second was not really negative so we survived. Guess you didn't pay for a review...

Actually, Eric, the Kirkus review basically said it would have been a pretty good story if it had been written by someone else.

I felt better after reading one of Tess Gerritsen's blog entries about negative reviews--she's been savaged by reviewers, and I don't get it, because Tess is really a terrific writer.
